Sweetener Series: Coconut Palm Sugar
The sensation of sweet and the quest for healthier alternatives to sugar and corn sugar (aka high fructose corn syrup) has lead to a proliferation of alternative sweeteners. One of the latest to join the mass market is coconut palm sugar. Made from the nectar of coconut palm blossoms, it contains a number of micronutrients, as well a purported lower glycemic index rating.
Coconut palm sugar is thought to be one of the healthier choices in sweeteners because of its vitamin and mineral content (due to minimal processing). Unlike white table sugar, (which is devoid of nutrients due to processing) coconut palm sugar has small amounts of the following micronutrients:

Whether you eat them fresh or dried plums aka prunes, offer a wide array of health benefits. Delicious, nutritious, and packed with healing properties, plums should be a staple in the fruit bowl. Plums have been prescribed for centuries by folk and herbal medicine practitioners for a variety of health complaints, but recent scientific research offers more great news about this healthy fruit.
Loaded with fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and lutein, it is not surprising that plums are regarded as one of those "super foods". Plums have a long history and are native to China, where they have been revered for centuries. Chinese myths and art often associate the plum with great longevity and wisdom.

We love activity. We are always on the lookout for efficiency and improvements that will give us tangible results. We buy newer, prettier computers. We roam the aisles of hardware stores looking to upgrade our doorknobs and light fixtures. Emails, texting, phone calls and important meetings deluge us. We spend time and money on things we believe will satisfy us.
Our activity and schedules make us feel important. There is always something else to do or buy. Activity and its accompanying adrenaline rush can be addictive. Prayer, meditation and self-examination, on the other hand, represent the non-rushed hidden life (going within)--those things we do in secret.

Food Diary entries record the day-to-day food intake of a person’s life but they do not usually go deeper than this. Food journals, by contrast, explore what the person is thinking and feeling at a given point in time. A food journal may make references to events that involve food but those events are not usually described in detail.
The main function of a food journal is to explore the psyche or the feelings that eating a food brings up. The person writes down exactly what he or she is thinking or feeling at a particular moment when they eat something.

We all read the headlines Top Ten Super Foods That Will Keep You Fit. Isn’t all food super-depending on your point of view? Funny thing there is no actual definition for super food and I am sure I can find ten people who think super food means ice cream. It has calcium in it and it makes people happy. Isn’t that the definition of SUPER FOOD?
Whenever I see the term super food-I smile. Why? We have become a society swayed by sound bytes. Food in its natural state is super period and you do not need a degree in nutrition to figure this out. To reinforce my point (and for fun) I put together a list of proclaimed common SUPER FOODS from an internet search on the subject. Enjoy! In the end, the best solution is to choose foods like your ancestors did; fresh, local, and in season.

Food shapes all aspects of our lives. It can determine where we live or what we do for a living. For many, food builds valuable memories and experiences. It’s no wonder that food is tied so closely to ritual. Food rituals in the past were present everywhere and can teach us about conscious and healthful eating.

You probably buy organic food because you believe it’s better for your health and the environment but you also may have heard criticism that “organic cannot feed the world."
Biotech and chemical companies have spent billions of dollars trying to make us think that synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are necessary to feed a growing population. But science indicates otherwise.
